Long-lasting makeup

You know that feeling when you step out looking flawless, only to catch a glimpse of your reflection hours later and realize your makeup has decided to go rogue? Same. Whether you’re gearing up for a wedding, a gala, or just a day packed with back-to-back events, having your makeup stay put is nothing short of a superpower. Lucky for you, I’ve gathered some tried-and-true long-lasting makeup techniques that will keep you looking fresh from morning coffee to late-night celebrations.

Mastering Long-Lasting Makeup Techniques: The Foundation of Flawless

Let’s start with the basics because, honestly, if your prep isn't prepping, the results won't stun. The secret? Hydration and the right products.

  • Start with a clean, moisturized face. Hydration is key, but don’t go overboard. A lightweight, moisturizer works wonders, and if you're on the oily side- opt for an oil-free option.

  • Prime like a pro. Think of primer as the glue that holds your makeup in place. It smooths your skin and controls oil, giving your foundation a perfect canvas. A well hydrated base will work well on its own, but if you're looking for longevity- don't skip this step. Many setting sprays are great to use as a base as well.

  • Choose your foundation wisely. Opt for long-wear formulas. Matte ones tend to have better staying power, but if you're dry, try mixing it with a glow serum or a radiant foundation. Apply with a damp sponge for a natural finish that sticks. Level up by spraying your sponge with setting spray for maximum performance.

  • Set it up. After foundation and concealer, lightly mist your face with another layer of setting spray and then, with a fluffy brush, apply a light layer of translucent setting powder on your T-zone or anywhere prone to shine. This will lock and blur your makeup into complete longevity.

Insider tip: layering thin products will out perform laying it on thick. Think of your makeup like a lasagna, the masterpiece comes together after layering, not dumping the pasta in the pan and pouring sauce on top. (I would use food as an analogy for makeup.)

The Art of Layering: Long-Lasting Makeup Techniques for Eyes and Lips

Eyes and lips are the stars of your makeup show, so they deserve some extra love to stay vibrant all day.

  • Eyes: Start with an eye shadow primer. Not all are created equal, find something that works for your skin type and say goodbye to creasing. Then, layer powder eye shadows over cream bases for depth and durability. Don’t forget waterproof eyeliner and mascara to avoid raccoon eyes by noon.

  • Lips: Exfoliate your lips gently before applying any product and then lightly hydrate with a balm to ensure all of your products glide on like butter (another food analogy lol). I like to use a waterproof lip liner to outline and fill in the lips – this acts as a base and prevents feathering. Then, apply a long-wear lipstick or a liquid matte formula. For extra staying power, blot and set with a translucent powder. Again, matte products can be drying so, keep a balm on hand to rehydrate- this should not affect the staying power of your pout.

Setting and Refreshing: The Final Steps to Makeup That Won’t Quit

Okay, so you’ve built a solid base and layered your colors like Michelangelo. Now, how do you keep it all intact through sweat, tears, and that sneaky mid-afternoon snack?

  • Fixing spray is your best friend. A few spritzes after you finish your makeup locks everything in place. Note that setting and fixing sprays are two different things. Use a setting spray before and throughout your makeup to hydrate and melt everything together. Use a fixing spray to water and transfer proof your look at the very end.

  • Blot, don’t powder. If you notice shine creeping in, use blotting papers instead of piling on more powder. It refreshes your look without adding cakey layers.

  • Carry a mini touch-up kit. A small concealer, powder, and a couple brushes can save the day. Just a quick buff here and there will revive your glow without needing a complete redo.

And here’s a little secret: avoid touching your face. I know, easier said than done, but your fingers have natural oils that can break down your makeup faster than you think.
