So you just got engaged. Or maybe you've been engaged for a while. Or maybe you're not engaged, but you just know it's coming and you are being pro-active. Whatever brought you here, you are probably looking for some guidance to manage the onslaught of wedding chaos that is about to take over your life. Because, just when you think you have it under control, you remember you need a spray tan. or a tone. Or your teeth could use a little whitening. Well, fear not, I have assembled an efficient schedule that will keep you organized and stress-free, so you can take the guessing out of when to do what!
6-12 Months Before Wedding
Find your beauty team: Artists open their schedule 12-16 months in advance and wedding season can get BUSY. If you have someone in mind, book asap. Send your deposit, sign your contract, ask questions later. If you are more unsure, you can start trying artists by getting them to do your glam for an engagement shoot/party if you are planning one, or treat yourself to a birthday hair and makeup and that will help you decide if the artist is the right fit for you!
Get serious about your skincare: If you have not been a skincare gal before, now is the time to lock in an effective routine because this will be the root to glowing skin on the day. If you are already deep into skincare, keep it going. Don't get crazy, just stay consistent. Meet with a dermatologist/skincare expert and discuss any possible treatments you can incorporate to step up your game. My personal favorite for fresh skin is micro-needling. However, some more intense treatments can have some downtime, so be aware and make sure you do not make any big skin changes too close to your wedding day.
Make a game plan for your hair: Now is the time to decide if you want to grow it out, or keep it short. Having a general idea of what style you want will help here, but it is always easier to cut hair that is too long, than to extend hair that is too short. Keep up with regular trims to keep it healthy.
3-6 Months Before Wedding
Hair and makeup trial: Get inspo pics together, make sure to choose inspiration with similar coloring to manage expectations. Now is the time to try anything you might want to see if it will work for you and schedule the trial early in the day to see how everything will hold up after a day of wear. Remember to account for some differences if you are planning a summer/winter wedding. A Summer wedding will obviously be warmer and require some water resistant products while a wedding in the winter will likely need some extra moisture if your skin is on the drier side. So, let your artist know which way you swing.
Teeth whitening: Start your sessions with either an at home product or see a professional. This treatment is not permanent and may take a while to see results. If you are really hoping for bright pearly whites, your post whitening care is important. Stay away from staining food/drink and if you just can't live without the coffee, give your mouth a good rinse with water after drinking.
Lashes: If you have not had lash extensions before but know it is something you'd like for your wedding, now would be a good time to try to make sure you have no allergies to them, and to work out a good shape/length/fullness level. It is not recommended to remove lashes that have just been applied, so giving yourself enough time to make changes is important.
1-2 Months Before Wedding
Hair touch-up: Don't make any drastic hair changes, especially if you've done your trial. But get your last trim/tone around 3-4 weeks out.
Facial: Your last intense facial should be about 3 weeks out and if Botox is your thing, now would also be the time. If you are looking for a gentle and hydrating facial, this can be done the week before your wedding, but only if you have had one before and will not be introducing any new products to your face.
Spray Tan: If you want the sun-kissed glow but have never had one, try it now. Not all spray tans are created equal, you will want to make sure the shade is right for you.
1 Week Before Wedding
Waxing: This, too, can cause irritation to the skin so give yourself a week or two if you are more on the sensitive side.
Lashes: If you have been getting these regularly, then get your last fill, or if you are getting a fresh set, I would recommend doing them as close to the date as possible. You can lose up to 10 lashes a day, so the closer the better.
Spray Tan: If you have chosen to go this route, it should be the last thing you do. You do not want to get nails, lashes, or a facial after a tan and you should wait 24-48 hrs post wax to make sure any wax irritation has subsided and your pores are not sensitive.
Nails: Relatively low-risk, this can be done at any time In the week leading up to your wedding. If you will be painting your nails with regular polish, I would suggest doing it the day before as it can chip easily.
Hair: Check in with your stylist and wash your hair usually 1-2 days before. Make sure you do not keep your hair in any style that will flatten/create kinks.
On the Day
Start the day with a deep breath and a deep stretch, it is going to fly by!
Apply your moisturizer and SPF and most importantly, give your lips a good scrub and apply a healthy amount of balm/mask.
Release any tension with a facial massage using just your hands or a gua sha/jade roller.
Wear a robe/zip-up/button up so you can remove it without disturbing your glam.
At all times of the year, make sure you are hydrating and prioritizing your health and remember that even one minute of meditation can make a difference! While this might all be overwhelming and expensive, you can also do whatever is realistic for you. This is only a guide that will hopefully make things less daunting.
