The worst thing that could happen on your wedding day, is paying your entire life savings for a makeup artist to make you like like a goddess, only to have that makeup disappear by the end of your ceremony... Alternatively, the worst thing that can happen on your wedding day would be your soon-to-be husband/wife leaving you at the altar. Unfortunately, I can't help you with that. I CAN help you by suggesting my top products that will ensure your makeup is going to stay fresh all day and night. With over 15 years of experience getting brides ready, I have tried every product you can imagine, and these are my faves that I use on basically everyone.
Nars Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow Base
Unfortunately, the shadow primer I used for the first 10 years of my career-that held eye shadow like cement- was discontinued. After a mourning period, I had to, once again, start a search for a shadow base that would give the longevity my clients were looking for on their wedding day. After a trial, and many errors, of literally every primer available, I found this, Nars Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow base. I can't say much more other than, she works. For all skin types, for all skin tones. She is your girl. I will never be without her, and should anyone have the indecency to discontinue her, I will retire.
One Size On 'Till Dawn Setting Spray
I feel like this one is not a surprise for many. I haven't been using this for long- again, another discontinued product situation- but Beyonce and Olympic synchronized swimmers do not use this for no reason. Come earth, wind, or fire, your makeup shall not budge.
Milk Hydro-Grip Primer
My belief for makeup is it is not so much about the makeup itself, but the canvas that will let the makeup either fly or crash and burn. I've always found that I can work with any product on any face as long as the face is warmed up and ready to go. This means, hydration. In addition to a great skincare routine your primer is also going to set the tone for how your makeup wears throughout the day. True, some people don't even use a primer, and do you NEED it? No. Do you NEED to add baking soda to a cake? No. Will the end result be better? Yes. This primer creates beautifully hydrated skin and holds makeup for 12 hours but is lightweight and not sticky at all.
Makeup Forever Artist Color Pencil Extreme Waterproof Lip Liner
When you work in an industry for so long, you are going to see a lot of changes. Some good, some not so good. In the case of the Makeup Forever Aqua Lip Pencil, this change was good. Like its predecessor, the Artist Color waterproof lip liner is extremely smooth, extremely long-wearing, and extremely comfortable. Even if my bride has her own lip product chosen, I usually start with a base of this liner so that it creates a long lasting base that doesn't need to be touched-up.
Maybelline Super stay Ink Crayon
I have included two lip products because that is arguably the fastest product to disappear in a day. This unsuspecting lip crayon is really a long wearing product that you do not need to worry about. I would say IF anything, after a few hours, you might want to add a swipe of lip balm over top, but that is to be expected for something with such long wear. The important thing is you won't have to constantly check to see if you've smudged, or if you have lipstick on your teeth, or if the color is bleeding around your lips. Super affordable but high quality.
